Thoughts Are Things, Choose Yours Wisely
Have you ever taken a moment to consider how powerful thoughts are? Do you realise how your thoughts and thinking process influence your success? I spend a lot of time thinking about this because, over the years, I have learned how much negative programming I have let creep into my life. The good news is you can think the way you choose to believe. You have the power to change your mind and decide to look at life through a different lens. You can choose to be positive, not negative. You can choose positivity and happiness. You can choose love over fear and anger!
We’ve all heard stories about someone who came from nothing to beat the odds. They grew up in a low-income family, didn’t have much money, were abused, etc. And yet, they climbed their way to the top. How? What did they do that was different from what you and I do? Here are six steps that I have identified that you can use to start changing your thoughts and reality.
1. Start Today
How do you want to live your life? Do you want to be powerless? Doesn’t that make you angry just thinking about it? I don’t want to live my life as a helpless person. I want to have power over my own life, and I want to be in control of my destiny. Why would anyone choose to live their life in such a way?
If you’re unhappy with where you are, it’s time to get real and demand better from yourself. It’s never too late to pursue your childhood dreams. Think about what you want and take steps towards making it happen. I dream of a successful and happy life, and I need to work hard and focus on my goals. I also need to surround myself with positive people who will support me in achieving my dreams. You have the power to achieve anything you want in life. Just believe in yourself, use your imagination to visualise your dreams, and take action to make them a reality. Empower yourself with positive thinking and self-confidence, and go after your goals with determination. You can achieve anything you set your mind to!
And the best time to start is today; as I mentioned, none of us wants sad, unfulfilled lives. So take some time out and begin to identify the thoughts that are most prevalent in your thinking. Make a list of these thoughts. What are some of the feelings that bubble up in you? How do these thoughts make you feel in your physical body? How much of our lives do we spend being slaves to these thoughts? And they may not even be our own. Yes, you read right; some of these thoughts may have been programmed into us from a very early age.
Starting today, I can’t emphasise this enough, the fight or flight part of our brain is designed to keep us safe and locked inside our comfort zone. Changing your thinking will give you the peace of mind and tranquillity you have always wanted. But It’s not easy; start to explore and notice your thoughts today.
2. Take Responsibility For Every Aspect Of Your Life
Your feelings influence your thoughts which impacts your emotions. It can be a vicious cycle,
Taking responsibility for your emotions and feelings is essential because they’re under your control. If you don’t take control of your feelings, they can end up controlling you. That can lead to all sorts of problems in your personal and professional life. So it’s worth taking the time to learn how to manage your emotions effectively. You may react to your environment or the people in it, but ultimately, you are responsible for how you feel. The next time you’re feeling down, ask yourself: What am I thinking right now?
Is there anything I can do to change the way I’m thinking? Can I let go of this thought or feeling? Remind yourself that your thoughts and feelings are just that – thoughts and feelings. They don’t define you, and they don’t have to control you. Treat yourself with kindness and respect, and extend that courtesy to the people in your life.
3. You Have the Power to Create Change.
You have the power to make a difference in the world, even if it’s just in your own life. You can choose to be optimistic and decide to make things happen. You have the power to make a difference in the world, even if it’s just in your own life. You can choose to be optimistic and decide to make things happen. You can choose to be a force for good, and you can decide to make a difference. It all starts with you.
As Napoleon Hill said in his book, “If you want to be successful, find someone who has already achieved the level of success you want and learn from them.” Excellent advice for anyone who wants to succeed in any area of their life. By finding a role model or mentor who has already achieved the level of success you desire, you can learn from their example and accelerate your journey to success.
Think of this as an exciting journey where you get to explore the mystery of your mind. Imagine being able to enjoy your life fully whilst you move towards your ideal future.
4. You are capable of more than you know.
You are capable of greatness. You can do great things. You have the potential to be successful and to make a difference in the world. You are capable of making your dreams come true. Think about the stories you have heard about seemingly impossible feats of strength. There is a story about a mother in the United States who lifted a car off her child trapped underneath. I bet if you asked her before that act if she could raise such a heavy weight, her answer would most certainly have been no.
There are many stories worldwide about people who have changed their thoughts about health, longevity and wealth and achieved extraordinary results.
Here are just a few examples:
• Dr Masaru Emoto, a Japanese scientist, has studied the effect of human thought and words on water crystals. He has found that positive thoughts and words create beautiful, symmetrical crystals while negative ones create ugly, deformed ones. Water makes up over 70% of our bodies, so it is not surprising that we may be influenced by what we think and say to it!
• A small study in China showed that people with optimistic attitudes about their health were three times more likely to live longer than those with pessimistic attitudes.
• In one experiment, students who were told they would do poorly on an upcoming exam did worse than those who were not given any information about the test. The students who expected to do poorly had lower grades and felt more anxious than the others.
• A study of heart patients found that those who believed they would recover from their illness were four times more likely to do so than those who did not have this belief.4. Motivational Material
There are books, blogs, articles, podcasts, and a whole host of material that can inspire and motivate you. The purpose of this is to open your mind and help you change your perspective. You can learn more about a particular subject or go on a journey of self-discovery. The point is that these things help you elevate your thinking about success. It isn’t a unicorn, and it’s something within your reach if you are willing to reach out and grab it.
5. Motivational and Inspirational Material
Many types of motivational and inspirational material are available, from books and articles to speeches and quotes. This material can be helpful in times of need, providing a boost of motivation or inspiration when we are struggling. It can also be a great way to learn about new perspectives and gain fresh insight into our lives. Whether we are looking for a pick-me-up or some food for thought, motivational and inspirational material can be a valuable resource.
I have a motivational bookmark folder on my browser where I save links to inspirational blogs and podcasts ( Shameless Plug, check out my Podcast at https://www.wattsinvolved.com/ ). I also read a lot about personal growth and self-development.
6. Commit to Alone Time
I am committed to my alone time. I need to recharge my batteries and reconnect with myself. I spend time each day, first thing in the morning and the last thing at night, just being alone with my thoughts. This is quite challenging considering how my brain works and how it lurches around like a drunken monkey on crack. Perseverance is the key; develop the ability not to get involved with the drama that enfolds across your mind when you are having your alone time.
Observe the images and thoughts that flash across your mind. Observe the sense, the feeling and the shape of those thoughts. Allow them to flow through you without trying to change anything. Allow the thoughts and images to move through you and be there for you. After a few minutes, try asking your mind a question: “Who am I?” or “What is my purpose in life?”.See what answer comes up for you.
Listen without judgement as your monkey mind chatters on at you about all the things you aren’t or can’t do. Try to be patient with yourself, particularly when feeling anxious and stressed. Start with 5 minutes of mindfulness practice each day. Over time, try to increase this amount. Your monkey mind is not your friend. It will try to tell you that you aren’t good enough, that your ideas are stupid, and that you’ll never succeed. Please don’t listen to it! Instead, focus on the present moment and what you can do right now to improve your life.
PS: I recommend you get the book “Thoughts Are Things” By the author Prentice Mulford.
Thoughts are things will help you on your journey of greater discovery of the self.
Until next time, Keep on keeping on,
