What Is Creative Visualisation?
Creative visualization is the technique of using mental imagery to visualize what you want to create in your life. It is based on the law of attraction, which states that like attracts like. By visualizing what you want, you start to feel more positive about it, attracting more of what you want into your life. I first learned about the practice of creative visualization when I came across the book Creative Visualization by Shakti Gawain.
She defines this practice as “the art of using mental imagery and affirmations to create what you want in your life.” She says we can use our power of imagination to create anything we want, whether it’s material things, relationships, or experiences. In short, if we can imagine it, we can create it. Since ancient times, visualisation has been used in mystical practices of various cultures as a tool for achieving spiritual enlightenment. As imagined reality affects our physical reality, it is essential to understand the differences between creative visualisation and creative imagination of the non-visual kind.
.
Creative visualisations can be used to develop a mental picture of your desired future, helping you envision your goals and dreams. They can also be used to develop your intellect. Creative visualisation has the effect of opening the mind to new possibilities, enhancing creativity and imagination by stimulating all the senses, increasing concentration, and creating a powerful connection between your subconscious mind and conscious level.
Creative visualisations are a vital form of self-guidance that helps achieve one’s goals. Studies by sports psychologists show that creative visualisation improves athletic performance by increasing neuromuscular efficiency.
When you practice the art of creative visualization, you will find it is a powerful tool that can help you manifest anything you want. So why not give it a try?
Benefits Of Creative Visualization Techniques
There are many benefits when you practice creative visualization techniques.
1.Deep Relaxation
Creative visualization starts with getting into a state of deep relaxation. Your breathing deepens and slows, and your mind becomes calm. And your heart rate begins to slow down. You become more aware of your body and how it feels.
2. Improved Health
When you enter a relaxed state, your brain has a chance to get out of its fight or flight mode. As a result, your cortisol levels begin to drop. This can lead to improved mental clarity and lower stress levels. In this state, your body can better direct energy to repair and recover. This includes cellular repair and detoxification, helping to reduce inflammation. Inflammation is a normal response from your immune system when it detects damage or infection. It helps to protect your body and promote healing. However, too much inflammation can cause various health issues
3. Increased Positivity
By becoming consciously aware of your thought patterns, you can identify those which no longer serve you. You can then change them, so they align with your desires. You will find that by doing this, you become more aware of the thoughts running through your mind daily. And gradually, your level of positivity will increase as you become aware that you can choose to be happy. You will find certain thoughts gradually fade away.
4. Becoming more conscious of your negative thought patterns
We all have beliefs that limit us in some way or another. Maybe you believe that you’re not good enough or that you can’t achieve your goals. Whatever the case, these limiting beliefs can hold you back from reaching your full potential and hinder your personal development.
Creative visualization might help you become more conscious of your limiting beliefs is the first step to overcoming them. Once you’re aware of the beliefs that are holding you back, you can start to question them and eventually let them go. This takes time and effort, but it’s worth it if it means living a more fulfilling life.
When you visualise, you create visual images of what you want to achieve. This can help you feel more positive and motivated to achieve your goals. Visualization can also be used as a form of meditation, which can help you relax and improve your self-confidence.
But…how do I know WHAT to visualize?
Creative visualization uses a process that can help you focus on positive affirmations, goals and prosperity. It can be helpful to think of visualization as creating a mental picture of what you want to achieve. When you focus on negative thoughts or self-doubt, it can be challenging to see the possibilities for what you want to achieve. However, by taking the time to visualize and choose goals, you can help yourself stay focused and motivated.
Personally, I choose to visualize those things that I want to do or be. So if I want to be a better writer, I visualize myself writing a great novel. If I want a successful blog, I visualize myself writing excellent posts and people reading them. And if I want to lose weight, I visualize myself eating healthy foods and working out at the gym. There is no right or wrong way to do it. You can choose whatever works for you.
There are two types of visualization techniques.
These are creative visualization and limit visualization. Creative visualization is when you use your imagination to visualize something without any limits to what is possible Limit visualization is when you only visualize what you know or believe is possible.
I’m sure you know which one to choose. I mean, why impose limits on ourselves when we truly have no idea of what is possible or what we are capable of?
Activating your creative subconscious.
Activating your creative subconscious is all about tapping into the power of your mind. By harnessing the power of your subconscious, you can achieve great things. One way to tap into this power is through visualization. When you visualize something, you tell your subconscious mind what you want to achieve. This can be a very effective way to achieve your goals.
Remember when you were a child and your imagination ran wild and free? By reigniting that spark, you give your subconscious mind permission to once again be free. Your creativity will begin to flow, and you may come up with ideas or solutions to a problem or problems you have never thought of before.
Visualization Techniques – The Basics
Visualization is a technique of using your imagination to create a visual mental image of what you want to achieve. It is a powerful tool that can help you to overcome negative thoughts, increase your motivation and focus, and achieve your goals.
There are many different visualization techniques, but the basics involve picturing yourself achieving your goal in your mind. This can be done by visualizing yourself taking specific actions or by imagining the outcome that you desire. The key is to be specific and to focus on the positive aspects of achieving your goal.
When you visualise, it is essential to feel the emotions that come with achieving your goal. This means picturing yourself being happy, excited, relieved, or whatever other emotions would be appropriate. Doing this will help to increase your motivation and commitment to achieving your goal.
The benefits of visualization are well-documented, and there is no downside to using this technique. If you find yourself struggling to visualize, there are many resources available online or in books that can help you to get started. As I mentioned earlier, author Shakti Gawain’s popular book “Creative Visualization.” is what started me on my journey of trying creative visualization.
5 Steps To Begin Using Creative Visualization
Creative visualization is a technique that anyone can use to improve their life. It is based on the idea that we can create our reality with our thoughts. If we focus on what we want and visualize it happening, it will happen.
There are five basic steps to start using creative visualization:
1. Get clear about what you want. The first step is to get clear about what you want. What do you want to achieve? What are your goals? What do you want more of in your life?
2. Create a mental image of the thing you want. Once you know what you want, it’s time to create a mental image of it. See yourself achieving your goals. Visualize what your life will look like when you reach your goals.
3. Feel how it feels to have what you want. As you visualize your goals being achieved, pay attention to how it feels. Focus on the emotions and sensations you would feel if you had what you wanted.
4. Affirm that it is possible for you to have what you want. As you visualize and feel how it would feel to have what you want, affirm that it is not only possible but inevitable.
5. Release your desire to the universe. Focus on it, imagine it fully and then let it go. This is probably the hardest part of the process, but with practice it will become easier.
When you first begin using visualization your mind will be skeptical. You may feel that this is too simple or too easy to work. The only way to overcome this skepticism is by continuing with the process and seeing for yourself how powerful it can be. The more time you spend practicing visualization, the better results you will get from it. Just as with anything else in life, practice makes perfect! The better you get at visualizing and creating positive feelings, the more the subconscious mind accepts that you can create success and have life-changing experiences.
Here is an example of a creative visualisation exercise. I use this to get into a meditative state and de-stress.
1. Get out into nature, find a quiet spot in your garden
2. Sit in front of a tree; if you don’t have trees in your garden, just look for a comfortable place to sit
3. Look at the sky and imagine it is a blue frosted glass ceiling; there are air conditioning units on it.
4. Imagine yourself as a single droplet falling from the ceiling, falling towards the ground.
5. As you fall through the sky, you see clouds forming below you; they act like islands in an ocean drifting along with nature, flowing and changing with time and distance. Always moving towards an unknown destination yet to be discovered by man.
6. As you fall closer to the ground, notice the leaves on your tree or plant are slowly moving along with nature.
7. As you land on one of the upper branches, look around and notice how the wind and rain have affected this small world within a world.
8. Look at how small it is compared to your own planet, earth. Notice how small it is compared to our galaxy, and think about what’s beyond our universe that we can’t even imagine.
9. Reconnect with nature, slow down, and focus on the here and now. Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. I try and focus on this deep breathing for at least 20 rounds. Each round consists of an inhale for the count of 6, hold for a count of 4 and exhale for 6. This will result in deep muscle relaxation.
10. Ground yourself by feeling your feet on the ground and the sounds and smells of nature around you.
12. Feel yourself as a part of nature, our planet and our galaxy, and the universe beyond, reconnect with your surroundings by feeling the air on all surfaces of your body and notice how beautiful it is to breathe in the knowledge of the beauty of life itself.
13. When you feel ready, slowly move your hands and feet and feel yourself becoming more centred in your body. Slowly open your eyes. Breathe out with gratitude for the peace and tranquillity which now flows within you
In conclusion, creative visualisation is a beneficial strategy for self-guidance and self-improvement. Its practice leads us toward an enhanced state of well-being, helps us achieve our goals and dreams, evokes our own self-confidence, and connects us with our inner selves.
